This month in your garden

Spring is here, and it’s the perfect time to plan and plant up your garden.
Most veggie seedlings can be planted out now, and you can also add splashes of colour with bright new annuals for the flower beds.
Now the soil is warmer, and the threat of frost is low, you can begin to plant tomatoes, peppers and all your favourite summer veggies. Make sure your veggie patch is free of any weeds, add some compost and sheep pellets in, and then start planting!
Now is the season that flower-lovers can begin to feel content, as we can grow a profusion of different flowers, from tall and stunning Delphiniums to peppy sprawling petunias. It is also a good time to plan ahead and plant shrubs like Hydrangeas for spectacular flowers later on.
If you’re craving fresh Strawberries this summer now is the time to plant.
Prepare your beds by forking in compost and forming into slight mounds. Then plant your strawberries and make sure that you mulch with straw when the fruit begins to form.
To protect edible seedlings from Slugs and Snails use Quash Slug Pellets (Safe for most family pets!) or use Slug and Snail Easy Traps rather than bait. Remember to keep the more beneficial insects welcome in your garden, too!
This is a guide only. For more in depth information please visit your local gardening centre.
