This month in your garden

Hopefully the worst of the windy weather is over and done with. However, after the battering we’ve had it may well be worth staking some plants and making use of windbreak cloth to help ensure that your plants are safe for the future.
It is now warm enough to plant a wide range of summer veggies, either from seed or by buying seedlings. Growing Tomatoes? Basil makes a great companion plants and by pinching out the growing tips you can ensure that you get bushy plants with lots of fresh leaves.
It’s a good time to plant climbers like Star Jasmine, Hybrid Clematis and Bougainvillea. Clematis grows best in full sun, with its feet in the shade. When planting all these climbers mix in compost and add either 24+ or Aquaticus Supernatural to fertilise.
While technically a veggie, Rhubarb is an easy fruit to grow that’s great stewed or in crumbles, and always tastes best straight from the garden. Grow in part-shade; just mix in compost, sheep pellets before planting and then you’re away!
Got Eugenia (lilly pilly) hedging? Look out for bubbling in the leaves. This is a sign that you have psyllids. If you do, remove any damaged leaves and leaf material from the base of the plant, and spray regularly and thoroughly with Aquaticus Glow.
This is a guide only. For more in depth information please visit your local Kings Plant Barn.
